...Валары — стихии Мира, творившие Арду по замыслу Эру — Единого, в начале времён ушли из Средиземья на запад, на континент Аман. Там они основали страну Валинор, где долгие годы царили мир и покой. Одна из Валар — Йаванна создала Два Древа Валинора, которые приносили в мир свет и тепло, когда Солнца и Луны ещё не существовало. Первое дерево в Валиноре звалось Тэльперион, а второе — Лаурелин. За семь часов каждое дерево разгоралось и угасало; и каждое начинало сиять вновь за час до того, как тускнело другое. Потому в Валиноре дважды в день наступал дивный час, когда свет обоих деревьев был слаб, и их золотистые и серебряные лучи смешивались — Час Слияния Света...

Феанор, сын короля нолдоров, в годы наивысшего расцвета Валинора, дабы сохранить свет и магию Древ, создал волшебные драгоценные камни — Сильмариллы, величайшую драгоценность Древнего Мира, в которые вложил дивный свет Лаурелина и Тельпериона. Мелькор, падший Валар, пожелал обладать Сильмариллами. Он привлек на свою сторону гигантскую паучиху Унголианту, и под прикрытием её тёмной магии, пробрался на Священную гору и уничтожил Древа.

Тьма и отчаянье опустились на Валинор. Валары воззвали к Феанору, дабы он разбил Сильмариллы, хранившие свет и силу священных Древ, ибо это был единственный способ вернуть их к жизни. Пока Феанор размышлял, горестные вести пришли из крепости Форменос: Мелькор убил короля нолдоров и похитил Сильмариллы. Феанор и его сыновья поклялись в том, что будут преследовать Мелькора и всех, кто пожелает обладать волшебными камнями. Они призывали всех эльфов покинуть Валинор и отправиться в Средиземье. Валары пытались отговорить их, но всё было напрасно — многие нолдоры вняли призыву Феанора. Так начался Исход нолдоров. Первым препятствием на их пути стало море, отделяющее Валинор от Средиземья. На его берегах издавна жил народ тэлери — родичи нолдоров и искусные корабелы. Феанор потребовал у них корабли, чтобы перебраться на них через море, но тэлери отказали ему. Тогда нолдоры решили взять корабли силой. Так началась первая битва между эльфами.

Тэлери не смогли одержать верх, и многие были убиты в тот день, а нолдоры завладели их кораблями. За эту братоубийственную резню Валары отреклись от нолдоров, и Валар Мандос изрёк проклятье, которое легло на каждого в этом походе. Вскоре после прибытия нолдоров на берега Средиземья, там разразилась первая из битв с орками Мелькора. Эльфы одержали верх, но в пылу сражения Феанор вырвался вперёд, преследуя врагов, которые, воспользовавшись положением, смогли одолеть короля. Перед смертью он оставил своим сыновьям завет хранить Клятву и отомстить Морготу. Сильмариллы до времени оставались во Тьме. Им суждено было сыграть свою роль в истории Арды...

Therefore, in Valinor, twice a day, there came a wondrous hour, when the light of both trees was weak, and their golden and silver rays mixed - the Hour of the Fusion of Light ...

Feanor, the son of the king of the Noldor, in the years of the highest prosperity of Valinor, in order to preserve the light and magic of the Trees, created magical gems - the Silmarils, the greatest jewel of the Ancient World, into which he put the wondrous light of Laurelin and Telperion. Melkor, the fallen Valar, wished to possess the Silmarils. He attracted to his side the giant spider Ungolianta, and under the cover of her dark magic, made his way to the Sacred Mountain and destroyed the Trees.

Darkness and despair descended on Valinor. The Valar called to Fëanor to defeat the Silmarils, which kept the light and power of the sacred Trees, for this was the only way to bring them back to life. While Feanor was pondering, sad news came from the fortress of Formenos: Melkor killed the king of the Noldor and kidnapped the Silmarils. Feanor and his sons vowed to pursue Melkor and anyone who wished to possess the magic stones. They called upon all elves to leave Valinor and travel to Middle-earth. The Valar tried to dissuade them, but it was all in vain - many Noldor heeded Feanor's call. Thus began the Exodus of the Noldor. The first obstacle in their path was the sea, separating Valinor from Middle-earth. On its shores long lived the Teleri people - relatives of the Noldor and skilled shipbuilders. Feanor demanded ships from them to cross the sea, but the Teleri refused him. Then the Noldor decided to take the ships by force. Thus began the first battle between the elves.

The Teleri failed to gain the upper hand, and many were killed that day, and the Noldor took possession of their ships. For this fratricidal massacre, the Valar renounced the Noldor, and the Valar Mandos uttered a curse that fell upon everyone on this campaign. Soon after the arrival of the Noldor on the shores of Middle-earth, the first of the battles with the orcs of Melkor broke out there. The elves prevailed, but in the heat of the battle, Feanor rushed forward, pursuing enemies who, taking advantage of the position, were able to defeat the king. Before his death, he left his sons a covenant to keep the Oath and take revenge on Morgoth. The Silmarils remained in the Darkness for a while. They were destined to play their part in the history of Arda ...
