Анри Маркарян родился во французском городе Валенс 14 ноября 1935 года, в семье эмигрантов - ливанских армян Кеворка и Вардануш Маркарянов.

В июле 1962 (или в августе 1963, по другим источникам) песня "Ballade" с первого EP Марка Ариана стала хитом. Ариану был предложен контракт с одной из крупнейших фирм грамзаписи Бельгии GRAMOPHONE S.A. In 1957 he went to Paris in order to try his luck and try himself as a singer. However, the metropolitan publishers were in no hurry to conclude contracts with him, and the singers did not seek to take his songs into the repertoire. Then Henri decided to use his own money, received from the sale of a music store he owned, to record his first song, under his real name, published it in a circulation of three thousand copies, deciding to bet on Belgium, where one of his sisters settled, who owned a nightclub with her husband. club. It was in this club that the first recordings of Mark Arian were played - such a pseudonym was taken by Anri Markarian. With the proceeds from the sale of a music store, he opens a company for the production of discs MARKAL and a recording studio MALATIA.

In July 1962 (or August 1963, according to other sources) the song "Ballade" from the first EP by Mark Arian became a hit. Ariane was offered a contract with one of the largest Belgian record companies GRAMOPHONE S.A. Mark Aryan's enormous diligence, his frantic desire to work, to create became the talk of the town: he himself wrote the music and lyrics to all his songs, he was also the author of amazing arrangements, he conducted the orchestra in the studio, and produced his own songs.
