Преподобный Силуан Афонский
Годы жизни: 1866 - 1938. В миру - Семен Иванович Антонов. родился в селе Шовском (Тамбовская губерния) в крестьянской семье. В 19 лет он пережил благодатное посещение. Когда вскоре молодая жизнь стала заглушать память о нем, зов был повторен Самой Богородицей. Семен коренным образом изменил свою жизнь и решил уйти в монастырь. По окончании военной службы Семен пробыл дома лишь одну неделю и уехал на Афон; в русский монастырь святого великомученика Пантелеимона он прибыл осенью 1892 г. Первым послушанием брата Симеона стала работа на мельнице; на стезю духовного подвига его вводил Афонский вековой уклад. Скоро он получил от Пресвятой Богородицы великий и редкий дар: его молитва стала “самодвижной”. Вместе с тем неопытный инок подвергался разнообразным демоническим нападениям. По прошествии полугода борьбы с ними брат Симеон изнемог: он почувствовал полную оставленность, его душу охватила адская тоска. Спустя час молодому послушнику явился Господь Иисус. В непрестанной борьбе проходит пятнадцать лет. И однажды ночью, когда, несмотря на все старания, чисто молиться не давалось, монаха Силуана охватило болезненное томление: столько лет предельных для человека усилий, и еще скрывается желанный Господь! Отец Силуан произнес в сердце своем: “Господи <...> что я должен делать, чтобы молиться Тебе чистым умом? <...> чтобы смирилась моя душа?”. И был ему ответ в сердце от Бога: Держи ум твой во аде, и не отчаивайся. С ростом благодатных посещений менялся характер молитвы Преподобного. В ней начинает преобладать молитва за мир, “за всего Адама, как за самого себя”. Из этой молитвы рождается его свидетельство о нерушимой связи каждого человека со своим ближним: “Брат наш есть наша жизнь”, и его убежденность в том, что любовь к ближнему - условие познания Бога: “Кто не имеет в себе любви к врагам, в том Дух Божий не обитает”. Преподобный Силуан с плачем молился о всем мире тогда, когда мир был охвачен братоубийственной войной, когда Россию раздирала гражданская война, когда множество людей становилось жертвами массового террора, и Русская Церковь шла путем мученичества. Духом проживая трагедию человечества, старец Силуан в молитве сораспинался кроткому, любящему Христу и “мог умолить Его о неисчетном множестве людей”. На иконе предстоящий Христу преподобный Силуан держит свиток со словами этой молитвы: "Молю Тебя, Милостивый Господи, да познают Тебя Духом Святым все народы земли".

Monk Silouan the Athonite

After six months of fighting with them, brother Simeon was exhausted: he felt complete abandonment, his soul was seized by hellish melancholy. An hour later, the Lord Jesus appeared to the young novice. Fifteen years pass in unceasing struggle. And one night, when, despite all the efforts, it was impossible to pray purely, the monk Silouan was seized with a painful yearning: so many years of utmost efforts for a person, and the desired Lord is still hiding! Father Silouan said in his heart: “Lord <...> what should I do in order to pray to You with a pure mind? <...> for my soul to be humbled? ”. And there was an answer to him in his heart from God: Keep your mind in hell, and do not despair. With the growth of grace-filled visits, the nature of the prayer of the Monk changed. Prayer for peace begins to prevail in her, “for all Adam, as for himself”. This prayer gives birth to his testimony of the indestructible bond of each person with his neighbor: “Our brother is our life,” and his conviction that love for our neighbor is a condition for knowing God: “He who does not have love for his enemies in him is The Spirit of God does not dwell.
