Today I want to talk about how we can get out of the impasse of disappointment. Of course, most of those present have heard this wisdom, which says that in order not to be disappointed, one must learn not to be fascinated. I also heard it and just watched (and watch) people continue to be fascinated. Here are some simple examples: Young people, boys and girls want to start families. They strive for this because they are confident within themselves that in this way they will become happy. And the experience of others, showing that family life definitely does not consist of only one happiness and even the Biblical exhortation said by Ap. Paul in love and fatherly: “If you marry, you will not sin; and if a virgin marries, she will not sin. But such will have afflictions according to the flesh; but I feel sorry for you ”(1 Cor. 7:28) no one is particularly stopped from getting married. I am strongly in favor of creating families, but I am saying that family life is not a “universal recipe for happiness”! We just come up with some “ideal” picture of family life for ourselves, but then we often need help in order to accept the reality of our family life, accept those “five things in which your spouse will never change” and live in love with him. Also, when going to get a job, we think about our income, we “distribute” the money that has not yet been received, but the work itself is not in our perception that which brings joy and satisfaction. Many times I've heard people say, “How can work be joyful? Work is just work. " But here's the paradox: To create a good family, a person needs to learn to be happy on his own; in order to really enjoy the results of his work, he needs to learn to enjoy the very process of work! I want you to understand that I am talking today about our attitude to what is happening, about how those who make up the church think and behave. Unfortunately, we are also characterized by this "dreaminess" and therefore we are plunged into this state of disappointment, a state of fatigue from everything that happens. Today I am not trying to warn anyone, I am not trying to tell and teach you how not to be disappointed (I made sure that this is a necessary part of the learning process), but I want to offer a way out for those who already feel this disappointment. When the "pendulum swings" in the other direction, then it begins to seem to us that "there is no happiness," but the Lord today wants each of us to encourage and affirm us that each of us can and is called to be a happy person. If we believe that there is God (and His “I Am” does not depend on how we feel ourselves, on our success and not on anything “ours” at all), then in the same way we need to learn to believe in the happiness that is for us with God! And our task, our challenge is to find, discover this happiness, discover it in our life. Therefore, we have a question: "Where and how is it, is this happiness to seek?" In order to set the direction I want to quote the words of Moses: This commandment, which I command you today, is not inaccessible to you and is not far away; it is not in heaven, so that one can say: "who would ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, and let us hear it, and we would fulfill it?" and it is not overseas, so that one can say: "Who would go across the sea for us and bring it to us, and let us hear it, and we would fulfill it?" but this word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. Deut. 30: 11-14. Happiness is not far off, not beyond the seas, it is not in changing our marital status and not in increasing our income, no, it is “inside us” and this is the greatest discovery of all times and peoples! And we, the Church of the Living God, are called to open, to release it. While we are looking for "simple human happiness", we are looking in the same way as people of this world are looking, we will again and again find ourselves in this disappointed state, because this is the path of great seduction and the race for the "ghost of happiness." But if we stop, if we agree with God, who wants to make us happy “here and now,” then no one and nothing can interfere with our happiness. Observing how people (including myself) behave and react in this frustrated state, I increasingly understand that frustration is persistence in not wanting to admit that they have “failed” in their search for happiness! It would seem that it is so simple to stand up and say before God: “I was looking for happiness where there is none, I wanted to take it myself, but now I understand my mistake, I regret this "Selfhood" and I want to receive the happiness that You, Lord, prepared for me before the creation of the world. " But somehow, instead, I watch the people who make up the church try to "become" happy over and over again. And they are so busy with this, so preoccupied and carried away that they have no time to even think that where they are running there will not be what they are running for! Friends, our happiness is just the same as there is God and in the same way as we accept God, how do we confess Him? |
