Хаты белые на окраине тлеют углями над Донцом...
Что по воле злой стали крайними, кто вернёт сынам отчий дом?
И не рожь шумит спелым колосом, не в полях поёт соловей,
То душа кричит, что есть голосу, льются слёзы вдов, матерей.

В прах развеяно всё, что нажито, ни кола теперь, ни двора...
И горят в огне люди заживо, стынет ужасом... тлен, зола.
И не прячет глаз тьма бесстыжая, потешается над бедой
Как растить детей тем, кто выживет? Хоть сродни волкам с горя - вой!..
