"... В лето 1162-е… герцог Генрих вторгся в землю славян с большим войском и опустошил ее огнем и мечом. Никлот, видя храбрость герцога, сжег все свои крепости, а именно Илово, Микилинбург, Зверин и Добин, принимая меры предосторожности против грозящей осады. Одну только крепость оставил он себе, а именно Вурле, расположенную на реке Варне, возле земли хижан. Отсюда они [славяне] Ежедневно выходили и устраивали слежку за войском герцога и из своих засад убивали неосторожных. В один из дней, когда войско [герцога] стояло под Микилинбургом, отправились сыновья Никлота, Прибислав и Вартислав, чтобы причинить вред, и убили несколько человек из лагеря, вышедших за кормом [для коней]. Храбрейшие из войска преследовали их и многих из них схватили, и герцог велел их повесить. Сыновья же Никлота, оставив коней и знатнейших мужей, пришли к отцу. Он сказал им: «Я полагал, что воспитал мужей, а они трусливее, чем женщины. Так лучше я пойду сам и попробую, не смогу ли я случайно больше преуспеть». И он отправился с некоторым числом избранных людей и устроил засады в потаенных местах, неподалеку от войска. И вот вышли отроки из лагеря на поиски корма для коней и подошли близко к засадам. Затем пришли солдаты вперемешку со слугами числом около 60, все в панцирях, спрятанных под одеждой. Не заметив этого Никлот на самом быстром коне появился между ними, пытаясь кого-нибудь из них пронзить копьем, но копье прошло до панциря и, нанеся безопасный удар, отскочило. Он хотел вернуться к своим, но, внезапно окруженный, был убит, и никто из его сподвижников не оказал ему помощи. Голова его была опознана и доставлена в лагерь, к немалому удивлению многих, как это такой муж, по попущенью божьему, единственный из всех своих погиб. Тогда сыновья его, услышав о смерти отца, сожгли Вурле и скрылись в лесах, посадив семьи свои на корабли…"
"…Сыновья Никлота, Прибислав и Вартислав, не удовольствовавшись землей хижан и черезпенян, стремились снискать себе землю бодричей, которую герцог отнял у них по праву войны. Узнав об их кознях, Гунцелин из Зверина, правитель бодрицкой земли, объявил об этом герцогу. И тот опять вознегодовал на них и разгневался и в зимнюю пору пришел с большим войском в славянскую землю. Они же засели в городе Вурле и укрепили замок против осады. И герцог послал вперед Гунцелина с храбрейшими мужами, чтобы они скорее начали осаду, опасаясь, как бы славяне не ускользнули случайно. Сам же он как можно скорее последовал за ними с остальным войском. И они осадили крепость, где были Вартислав, сын Никлота, и много благородных мужей и, кроме того, великое множество простого народа. Старший же по рождению, Прибислав, с некоторым числом конников скрылся в лесах, чтобы из засады убивать неосторожных..."

"... In the summer of 1162 ... Duke Henry invaded the land of the Slavs with a large army and devastated it with fire and sword. Niclot, seeing the duke's courage, burned all his fortresses, namely Ilovo, Mikilinburg, Zverin and Dobin, taking precautions He left only one fortress for himself, namely the Vurle, located on the Varna River, near the land of the hizans. From here they [Slavs] went out every day and arranged surveillance of the Duke's army and killed the unwary from their ambushes. [the Duke's] army was at Mikilinburg, the sons of Niklot, Pribislav and Vartislav went out to harm, and they killed several people from the camp who had gone out for food [for the horses]. The bravest of the troops pursued them and captured many of them, and the Duke ordered them The sons of Niclot, leaving their horses and noble men, came to their father. He told them: "I thought that I had brought up husbands, and they are more cowardly than women. So I better go and try, if I can accidentally succeed more ". His head was identified and taken to the camp, much to the surprise of many, as such a man, by God's permission, was the only one of his own who died. Then his sons, hearing about the death of their father, burned Vourle and hid in the forests, putting their families on ships ... "
"... The sons of Niklot, Pribislav and Vartislav, not content with the land of the khizans and through the Pennyans, sought to gain the land of the vigorous, which the duke took from them by the right of war. And the duke sent Guntselin ahead with the bravest men so that they would start the siege as soon as possible, fearing that the Slavs did not slip away by chance. He himself followed them as soon as possible with the rest of the army. And they laid siege to the fortress, where there were Vartislav, the son of Niklot, and many noble men and, in addition, a great multitude of common people. Elder by birth, Pribislav , with a number of horsemen hid in the woods in order to kill the unwary from an ambush ... "
