О вы, блуждающие по пути разветвившихся религий и скитающиеся в ущелиях противоречивых учений, вы, счетшие свободу отрицания вернее оков подчинения, а луга сомнения надежнее оплотов подражания, – изберите религией красоту и поклоняйтесь ей как Господу. Она проявляется в совершенстве творений, обнаруживается в выводах разума. Бросьте тех, кто представляет веру забавой и соединяет свою жадность к богатству со страстью к благому исходу, уверуйте в божественность красоты; началом вашего восхищения будет жизнь и источником вашей любви – счастье. Затем обратитесь к ней: она приблизит ваши сердца к трону женщины, зеркалу ваших чувств, и укажет путь вашим душам на ристалище природы, где отечество вашей жизни. О вы, гибнущие среди ночи разноречий и тонущие в пучинах догадок! Ведь в красоте - истина, отрицающая подозрение, отгоняющая сомнение, и блистающий свет, который охранит вас от мрака лжи. Присмотритесь к пробуждению весны и наступлению утра – ведь красота – удел присматривающихся!
Прислушайтесь к пению птиц, и шороху ветвей, и журчанью ручьев, – ведь красота – доля прислушивающихся! Взгляните на кротость ребенка, и нежность юноши, и силу мужа, и мудрость старца, – ведь красота – восхищение вглядывающихся! Воспойте нарцисс глаз, и розу щек, и анемон рта, – ведь красота прославляется воспевающими!
Восхвалите ветвь стана, и ночь волос, и слоновую кость шеи, – ведь красота радуется похваляющим! Посвятите тело, как храм, красоте и посвятите сердце, как жертвенник, любви, – ведь красота воздает поклоняющимся!
Ликуйте вы, которым ниспосланы откровения красоты, и веселитесь, ибо нет страха над вами и не будете вы опечалены.
