    Religion Poems

Once the father comes - in the evening, with labor barking,
He twisted my ear and whistled a little "Ermak."
“Have you heard, daredevil?” I got a task today -
Tomorrow unload the temple. We shall dispossess the Most Holy. ”

"What's next?" - “And then the charges are brief:
With half a ton of explosives - and a whirlwind to the seventh heaven.
Come on in tomorrow. You look into God's chambers there.
Rummaging through books. I’m sweeping something myself. ”

And in me, youth rang in all the tendons
And appealed to the constellations and the eternal tablets of the earth.
And beyond the evening field, spreading the sunset wings,
The Byzantine miracle shone in crimson dust.

I loved these chapters, flying up to unknown heights,
And Sunday ringing, and the whistle of indefatigable swifts.
This grandfather’s temple, adorning our entire neighborhood
And he consecrated our entire vale with his crown!

May I not honor the saints and, looking at the church, not be baptized,
But when loud-sounding copper called from the bell tower,
I went into the porch, and humbly stood in the doorway,
And he looked into the depths, immersed in the dusk by a third.

The soul died away and the candlelight flickered
And thundering choirs overthrew wave after wave.
And everything seemed to me that I stepped into the limit of the Universe
And that eternity itself kindled the lights in front of me.

No, it’s not with God that I was and didn’t stand in the temple,
And the soul froze under a completely different voltage.
These prophetic hymns flying to the universal heights!
This poor heart washed by the best rain! ..

And I came there - to look at another care!
I can’t forget that sad suffering now, -
Like father’s hands plucked gold from the walls,
Like a father’s ax left traces on the icons.

Broke the altar, crumbled parquet plates,
And the finest dust covered all the windows all around.
And our mournful aunts of Ulit stood near the walls,
Wiping a tear with his paper shred.

And then I watched my father’s hands tremble,
As a partner, he silently swallowed a meal ...
I took nothing, not a single hidden thing
And he looked at the top so that people would not look into the eyes.

I loved these vaults, flying up to unknown heights,
And Sunday choirs, and drums from all levels ...
This grandfather’s temple, built by a local builder
And collected by a pittance in the valleys of my Fatherland!

And I looked to where the swift tribe scurried,
Flying under the dome, clinging to each curtain rod.
And I didn’t know then that the sunken seed was sunk
This is my heart, which was sad at the dumped robes.

And the years will fly by, and the dusk of ignorance will scatter
And everything will be remembered - this temple, and the ax, and the swifts, -
And about these walls I’ll lay down this legend
And the high Song that will be sung at this boundary.

Let the grandson hear, and don’t look at his grandfather so crookedly:
Although he was timid, he still loved the truth, the old man! ..
God forgive me for these late impulses
And for this my woeful cry.
