История создания песни
Песня была написана под впечатлением конного путешествия в 1877 на наветренный берег острова Оаху, во время которого королева Лилиуокалани стала свидетелем нежного прощания полковника Джеймса Бойда и молодой девушки из Маунавили. Лилиуокалани сочинила мелодию песни на обратном пути в свой дом «Уошингтон Плейс» в Гонолулу, а по возвращении домой она сочинила и слова песни[1].
Мелодия хора напоминает мелодию хора песни «There’s Music In The Air», написанной Джорджем Фредериком Рутом в 1854 году.

Song story
The song was written under the impression of an equestrian journey in 1877 to the windward coast of Oahu, during which Queen Liliuokalani witnessed the gentle farewell of Colonel James Boyd and a young girl from Maunavili. Liliuokalani composed the melody of the song on the way back to her Washington Place home in Honolulu, and upon returning home she composed the lyrics of the song [1].
The melody of the choir resembles the melody of the chorus of the song “There’s Music In The Air,” written by George Frederick Routh in 1854.
