Rev. Vincent Lirinsky - the IV century ecclesiastical writer, author of the highly acclaimed theological treatise on the nature and development of Orthodox-dogmatic teachings. About his life we know very little. He was born in Gaul, he was a monk in a monastery Lirinskom (on the island against Cannes), which got its nickname (Vincentius Lirinensis); He died about 450 year. Full title of the treatise, published under the pseudonym Vikenty Peregrina: & quot; Commonitorium primum, seu tractatus Peregrini pro catholicae fidei antiquitate et universitate adversus profanas omnium haereticorum novitates & quot ;. It was written three years after Ephesus Ecumenical Council, therefore in the year 434, and was aimed at, as is evident from the title itself, establish and prove continued antiquity and universality of the Orthodox faith. The author argues that the immutability of dogmas is quite compatible with their development as a gradual opening to the consciousness is already data in the revelation of truth. As a criterion for determining Vincent exposes the true tradition of the famous thesis that & quot; in the universal Church need to hold fast to what they believed everywhere, always believed in what they believed all & quot; (Quod ubique, quod semper, quod ab omnibus creditum est). This criterion hitherto recognized Orthodox theology as the only accurate and sufficient. Treatise Vincent placed in Minya, including 50 full Russian translation of it, though not entirely satisfactory, published in Kazan in 1863, presenting the most important parts of it to make a profit. IA Cheltsov in the annex to his compositions & quot; The ancient form of characters & quot; (St. Petersburg,. 1869), which also determines the dogmatic significance of this treatise.
