Кузнечиками быстрых нот под солнцем скачет,
В речной волне водоворот звенит и плачет.
И вот на княжеских балах летит под крышу,
И в колоколах я песню слышу.
Ее, как яблоню, трясут с веселым свистом.
Осенний сад шумит, как суд над пианистом.
Но поздно, поздно, белый зал былой столицы,
Аккорды, словно красный залп по белым лицам.
И снова полуденный лес, ромашки, маки.
И звон косы, и синь небес, и лай собаки,
И темнота. И в темноте - огонь от спички.
В далекой черной тишине - шум электрички.
От ветра занавески шелк заколыхался,
Он встал, закрыл рояль, ушел. А я остался.

And again the midday forest, chamomiles, poppies.
And ringing braids, and blue heaven, and barking dogs,
And darkness. And in the dark - fire from the match.
In the distant black silence - the noise of the train.
From the wind curtains silk swollen,
He got up, closed the piano, gone. And I stayed.
