Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Unattended (poem of the English poet William Ernst Henley)
From under the cover of darkness night,
From the black pit of terrible flour
I thank you all the gods
For my unaccificed spirit.
And I, getting into the vice of trouble,
Did not falter and not groaned
And under the blows of fate
I was wounded, but did not fall.
The trail lies the average evil and tears,
Further path is not clear, let him
But still difficulties and troubles
I, as before, I am not afraid.
It does not matter that the gates of narrow,
My danger is not afraid.
I am the Lord of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
