Маха Мритьюнджайя – Побеждающая смерть – одна из самых древних и мощнейших мантр Ведической эпохи, дошедших до нас через тысячелетия…

Мантра приводится в 7 Мандале Риг-веды. Это жизнедающая и исцеляющая мантра. Она может защитить от неизлечимых заболеваний, от змеиных укусов, молнии, несчастных случаев в дороге, огне, воде, воздухе и всяческих других видов несчастий. Эта мантра помогает при неизлечимых заболеваниях, если ее поют с искренностью и верой. Она дарует долгую жизнь, мир, богатство, благосостояние, удовлетворение и бессмертие.

В индийских легендах и мифах Мритьюнджайя связана с именем Маркандейи — его учение заложено в Маркандейя Пуране.

Tryambakam относится к трем глазам Господа Шивы. Трийа значит три, Амбакам значит глаза. Тогда читаем перевод так:
Почитаем Трехокого, Благоухающего, приносящего Благо. Подобно созревшему плоду урваруки да избавит он меня от смерти ради бессмертия!

The mantra is found in Mandala 7 of the Rig Veda. It is a life-giving and healing mantra. Translation of the mantra:
Tryambakam refers to the three eyes of Lord Shiva. Triya means three, Ambakam means eyes. These are three eyes or sources of enlightenment - Trimurti or three primary deities, namely: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and three AMBA (also meaning Mother or Shakti) - Sarasvati, Lakshmi and Gouri. Thus, by this word we refer to God as Omniscient (Brahma), Omnipresent (Vishnu) and Almighty (Shiva). This is the wisdom of Brhaspati and the direction of Shri Dattatreya, who has three heads, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Yajamahe means "We sing Your praises."

Sugandhim refers to His aroma (knowledge, presence and power, i.e. three aspects) as the best and always spreading around. Scent has to do with the pleasure we receive from knowing, seeing or feeling His virtuous deeds.

Pushtivardhanam: Pushan - refers to - He is the keeper of this world, and in this sense, He is the Father of everything.

Urvarukamiva: Urva means vishal or big and powerful or extremely. Arukam means disease. Thus, aruka means serious illness. Diseases - also of three types - are caused by the (negative) influence of the three Gunas, and there is - ignorance (Avidya, etc.), falsity (Asat, etc.; for example, although Vishnu is everywhere, we do not perceive Him, controlled by our vision and other feelings) and weakness (Shadripu or six weaknesses are the limitations of this physical body, as opposed to the focus of all the powers of Shiva).

Bandhanan means associated, thus when reading with Urvarukamiva it means "I am bound by ignorance and ignorance."

Mrityor Mukshiya means liberation from death both premature death in this physical world and from the repeated cycle of death-rebirth.

Maamritat means "please give me the Amritam nectar of immortality."

Reading with the preceding words, this means: I revere the Three-Eyed, Fragrant, Blessing, the keeper of this world. (I am) bound by ignorance and ignorance, I pray for Amrita to be free from death as well as the cycle of rebirth.

There is another version of the translation, where Urvarukamiva is related to the comparison with the fruit of Urvaruka - this is the so-called "mad cucumber", in a state of ripeness separates from the stem with a "shooting back" movement.

Then we read the translation like this:
We venerate the Three-Eyed, Fragrant, Blessing. Like the ripe fruit of urvaruka, may he save me from death for the sake of immortality!
