Blackmore's Night.

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
    To cast me off discourteously.
For I have loved you well and long,
    Delighting in your company.

    Chorus:
    Greensleeves was all my joy
    Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady greensleeves.

Your vows you’ve broken, like my heart,
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity.

I have been ready at your hand,
To grant whatever you would crave,
I have both wagered life and land,
Your love and good-will for to have.

If you intend thus to disdain,
It does the more enrapture me,
And even so, I still remain
    A lover in captivity.

My men were clothed all in green,
    And they did ever wait on thee;
All this was gallant to be seen,
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

Thou couldst desire no earthly thing,
but still thou hadst it readily.
    Thy music still to play and sing;
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

Well, I will pray to God on high,
that thou my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I die,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me.

    Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu,
To God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy lover true,
Come once again and love me.

Experts in music history believe that the famous "Green Sleeves" ("Greensleeves") is the dedication of the king of England Henry VIII in love to his future wife, Anna Boleyn, put on an old tune. It is not known whether Henry VIII really composed these lines, but they cherished a beautiful legend - and it is generally accepted that a beautiful stranger in a green dress is Lady Anna Boleyn.
Little is known about the origin of the song. The melody, written by an anonymous composer of the 16th century, became the basis for numerous variations. The writing of the text of the ballad is often attributed to the English king Henry VIII, who allegedly addressed these verses to his beloved, presumably Anna Boleyn, who became the second wife of Henry. She did not succumb to the king's attempts to seduce her, and this refusal is reflected in the words of the song.
The first Greenslives text was published in 1566. This option, which has survived to this day, includes 18 quatrains and refrain, but it is generally accepted that only four quatrains and refrain are genuine. In total, there is a huge number of verses (according to some estimates, up to 1800) that play on the same topic - the author’s complaints about his beloved, who left him despite all his efforts.
This composition is in the repertoire of many contemporary performers. Among them are Elvis Presley and the well-known band Blackmore's Night.

    Translation option into Russian:

    Alas, love, ruining my life,
You break with me without shame.
I have loved you for so many years
And he was always happy with you.

    Chorus:
    Greenslives lit my light
    Greenslives brought joy
    Greenslives bloomed in my heart
And who instead of Lady Greenslives?

    I served you faithfully
And he was ready to indulge again.
    I put life and earth
    For your mercy and love.

    Do not count donated scarves,
Where so the pattern gracefully lay.
I gave you both a table and a shelter,
And my wallet has not scanty.

    Greenslives, forgive me forever.
I pray for you to God.
But if you decide to come again,
    Know that I love you.
