Враг ожидает вестей, только мы не вернёмся;
тайною звёздной дорогой мы двинемся в ночь

Центром Вселенной становится Край,
Мы отыскали Дворец под Звездой постоянства -
Им оказался заброшенный старый сарай
Дремлет Младенец: вот золото, ладан и смирна,

А Звезда всё горела над кровлей, так ярко и мирно,
В час, когда мы покидали Предвечный порог.
Мы едем домой, мы не знаем о том,
Что утром рыдать будет город
о детях, разбитых о камни
и брошенных в ямы,
что в эту минуту уже, задыхаясь,
спешат беглецы по дороге в Египет
Мы едем домой и несём в своём сердце покой Рождества,
И все тысячи будущих ёлок, игрушек, подарков, волшебных огней!..
