"Genexus" - десятый полноформатный альбом Fear Factory и третий полностью концептуальный после "The Industrialist".
Изначально Дино нашёл в интернете слово "Genexus", после чего совместно с Бёртоном вокруг него был придуман концепт. "Genexus" - комбинация двух слов "Genesis" (начало всего сущего) и "Nexus" (период, в котором мы пребываем сейчас). Для нас - для людей - "Genexus" - это следующая ступень эволюции, когда нано-технологии, устройства, бионика настолько сильно станут частью нашего существования, что различие между людьми и машинами станет незаметным. Когда-то мы были кроманьонцами, теперь мы Genexus.
Рей Курцвейл предсказал, что мы достигнем сингулярности в 2045 году. "Genexus" - термин, описывающий этот эволюционный процесс. Люди являются машинами и наоборот, и отличить одно от другого невооружённым взглядом невозможно.
Альбом затрагивает темы образа мышления, психологии и испытаний, с которыми сталкивается поколение Genexus. Мы получили образованные машины, которые хотят добиться автономности от индустрии, которая их создала. Машина находится в состоянии вечной борьбы, точно так же как человек на протяжении своего существования. Эта история о каждом из нас.
Главными источниками вдохновения послужили работы Рея Курцвейла и художественный фильм "Blade Runner", а именно главный персонаж Рой Бетти, которого играет Рутгер Хауэр. В заглавном треке "Genexus" можно услышать сэмпл из картины - "That's what it is to be a slave". Эту реплику произносит Бетти, репликант, на которого по сюжету кинофильма ведётся охота.

Во вступлении песни "Autonomous Combat System", а также на протяжении завершающего альбом трека "Expiration Date" текст читает Мистер Сэм (Sam Shearon), известный в определённых "индастриальных и металлических кругах", как музыкант, автор комиксов, художник и разработчик логотипов для огромного количества групп, включая Fear Factory.
Вопреки распространённому мнению, в треке "Expiration Date" завершающий текст не совсем цитирует предсмертный монолог Роя Бетти из "Blade Runner". В оригинале репликант говорит: "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.", когда как версия Fear Factory звучит немного иначе: "All those memories will fade in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
Бонус трек "Enhanced Reality" изначально должен был появиться на альбоме "The Industrialist", но был не доведён до ума к тому времени. Доработанную версию можно услышать на digipack-издании "Genexus".

Initially, Dino found the word "genexus" on the Internet, after which, together with Burton around him, a concept was invented. "Genexus" - a combination of two words "genesis" (the beginning of all things) and "Nexus" (the period in which we are now). For us - for people - "Genexus" is the next step of evolution, when nano-technologies, devices, Bionics will be so much part of our existence that the difference between people and machines will become inconspicuous. Once we were Cryanonians, now we are genexus.
Rey Kurzveyl predicted that we would achieve a singularity in 2045. "Genexus" is a term describing this evolutionary process. People are cars and on the contrary, and it is impossible to distinguish one from another unarmed look.
The album affects the themes of thinking, psychology and tests faced by Genexus generation. We got educated cars that want to achieve autonomy from the industry, which created them. The car is in the state of the eternal struggle, just as a person throughout its existence. This story is about each of us.
The main sources of inspiration were the work of Roma Runner and the art film "Blade Runner", namely the main character of Roy Betty, which is played by Rutger Hauer. In the title track "Genexus" you can hear a sample from the picture - "That's What It Is To Be a Slave". This replica utters Betty, the replicant, on which hunting is underway on the story movie.

In the entry of the song "Autonomous Combat System", as well as the text of the EXPIRATION DATE, the text reads Mr. Sam (Sam Shearon), famous for certain "Industrial and metal circles", as a musician, author of comics, artist and developer logos for A huge number of groups, including Fear Factory.
Contrary to popular belief, in the track "EXPIRATION DATE" the final text does not quite quote the death monologue of Roy Betty from "Blade Runner". In the original, the replicant says: "All Those Moments Will Be Lost in Time, Like Tears in Rain. Time to Die." When the Fear Factory version sounds a bit otherwise: "All Those Memories Will Fade in Time, Like Tears in Rain. Time to die. "
The Bonus track "Enhanced Reality" was initially to appear on the "The Industrialist" album, but was not brought to mind by the time. The final version can be heard on the "Genexus" digipack.
